Giving Back
The oil and gas industry is bound to affect the lives of many Canadians, specifically in the communities in which they do business. Many oil and gas companies take pro-active measures to forge mutual, collaborative relationships and make significant investments towards social programs and improvements within these communities.
Beyond the much needed energy resources and significant economic contributions the oil and gas industry provides, the industry also plays a vital social role in Canada by:
- Supporting job creation and training initiatives through various funding, scholarship, employment and career awareness programs.
- Working and collaborating with Aboriginal communities and landowners to develop mutual business relationships, listening and responding to concerns. Encourages Aboriginal participation in the oil and gas industry through training, employment and education initiatives. In 2007 over 1,500 Aboriginal people were actively employed in the oil sands. Oil and gas companies contributed over $3.6 million towards Aboriginal education and youth programs, and various cultural and literacy projects.
- Establishing significant social giving and investment programs for various not-for-profits and charities.
- Providing investments and contributions to fund public initiatives in the arts, health, education and research and development activities.
- Leading cutting-edge innovation and technology for the oil and gas industry on a global scale.
