Scholarships and Grants
Financing your education requires careful thought and planning. Expenses for tuition, student fees, books, housing and other expenses while studying full-time can definitely add up! Luckily, there are a number of resources, tools and information to help you access the right type of funding depending on your needs.
There are also many programs available, such as special scholarships, awards, bursaries and grants to help you finance your education.
Below is a listing of a few organizations that offer scholarships for students pursuing an education leading to a career in the petroleum industry. Many government programs also exist to help students subsidize their post-secondary education. Check with your educational institution as well – there may be more scholarship options offered by your school or within your program of study.
- Petroleum Services Association of Canada Scholarships
Financial assistance to individual students planning on pursuing post-secondary education and to schools looking to enhance studies in math, science and technology. - Pengrowth Nova Scotia Energy Scholarship Program
A partnership between Pengrowth and the Province of Nova Scotia that sees as many as 19 scholarship and research grants awarded annually to Nova Scotian students pursuing education and careers in the energy sector. - Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (CSEG) Scholarships
CSEG Scholarship Trust Fund awards annual scholarships to deserving geophysics students from universities across Canada. - Canadian Society of Professional Geologists (CSPG) Scholarships
CSPG supports numerous petroleum geology scholarships for university students across the country. - Apprenticeship Incentive Grant
The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) is a taxable cash grant available to registered apprentices once they have successfully completed their first or second year (level) of an apprenticeship program in one of the Red Seal trades. - AMMSA Aboriginal Scholarship and Bursary Guide
Provides over 380+ sources of scholarships and bursaries for Aboriginals studying in Canada. - Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT)

Annual scholarship of $1,000 to a graduating high school student in Newfoundland and Labrador, entering post-secondary studies and intending to pursue a petroleum-related career. - Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Energy Scholarship Program
Scholarships are offered to students entering business, engineering, science, environmental and energy related programs at a university or community college, after completing Grade 12 at any Nova Scotia high school. - Provincial Student Financial Assistance Offices
