Working in Oil & Gas

Nova Scotia

Offshore Natural Gas
Canada's first offshore natural gas discovery was found south of Sable Island in 1969. Future discoveries of natural gas near Sable Island eventually led to Canada's first offshore natural gas development project in Canada, yielding 450 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. A future natural gas project – Deep Panuke located southeast of Nova Scotia is expected to yield an estimated 632 billion cubic feet of recoverable sales gas over the next 13 years.

Onshore
Nova Scotia's onshore industry has been active since the 1860's. Over 110 exploration wells have been drilled in Nova Scotia, with potential for coalbed methane (natural gas from coal) in the northern mainland and Cape Breton.
