Financing your education requires careful thought and planning. Expenses for tuition, student fees, books, housing and other expenses while studying full-time can definitely add up! Luckily, there are a number of resources, tools and information to help you access the right type of funding depending on your needs.

There are also many programs available, such as special scholarships, awards, bursaries and grants to help you finance your education.

Below is a listing of a few funding resources and organizations that offer scholarships for students pursuing an education leading to a career in the petroleum industry. Many government programs also exist to help students subsidize their post-secondary education. Check with your educational institution as well - there may be more scholarship options offered by your school or within your program of study.

  • Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (CSEG) Scholarships
    CSEG Scholarship Trust Fund awards annual scholarships to deserving geophysics students from universities across Canada.
  • Canadian Society of Professional Geologists (CSPG) Scholarships
    CSPG supports numerous petroleum geology scholarships for university students across the country.
  • Apprenticeship Grants
    There are two grants available for apprentices in a Red Seal trade. The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) is a taxable cash grant available to registered apprentices once they have successfully completed their first or second year (level) of an apprenticeship program. The Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG) is a one-time taxable cash grant of $2,000 for registered apprentices who complete their apprenticeship training and obtain their journeyperson certification.

  • NOIA-Hibernia Commemorative Scholarship
    Annual scholarship of $1,000 to a graduating high school student in Newfoundland and Labrador, entering post-secondary studies and intending to pursue a petroleum-related career.
  • Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Energy Scholarship Program
    Scholarships are offered to students entering business, engineering, science, environmental and energy related programs at a university or community college, after completing Grade 12 at any Nova Scotia high school.
