You’re all about people. As a Human Resources (HR) Analyst, you collect, analyze and manage the data relating to your company’s people. HR has evolved from an administrative function to a strategic one that helps drive the business bottom line. This is because your analysis and information empowers managers and decision makers to create smart, adaptable workforce strategies that keep your company moving forward.
Human Resources (HR) Analysts in the oil and gas industry collect, study and manage data and information related to labour issues and costs that affect their companies. This includes data management and analysis of information such as compensation trends, workforce demographics, pensions and benefits, turnover, training etc. These analysts are responsible for leading and coordinating projects and activities specifically related to the development and administration of an organization’s compensation programs as well as workforce planning and recruitment. In large companies the HR Analyst is often responsible for collaborating and supporting the HR team on day-to-day responsibilities in addition to projects. These responsibilities are often related to recruiting, on-boarding/off-boarding, talent management and HR systems. The HR Analyst assists in managing the process flow of all HR related forms and documents.
One of their primary responsibilities is to advise and make recommendations to management on compensation, information which is then incorporated into operations planning and strategies.
When you start in this occupation activities may include:
- Analyzing compensation data and studying labour market trends
- Preparing or maintaining employment records related to events such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers and promotions
- Assisting with the maintenance of internal database files and developing custom reports to meet the requirements of Human Resource management and staff
As you advance in this career, you may take on additional tasks including:
- Advising management teams on how to address the people-related aspects of business decisions
- Advising management on organizing, preparing or implementing recruiting or retention programs
- Evaluating selection or testing techniques by conducting research or follow-up activities and conferring with management or supervisory personnel
Education
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in human resources management or a related field is typically required.
Certifications
- Some employers may require human resources professionals to hold a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.
- Specific health and safety certifications will be determined by job requirements
