Fact #3: The demand for power engineers, reservoir engineers and well pad operators has accelerated.

When we talk about the oil sands, a lot of people usually picture an open-pit being mined by huge shovels and trucks. However, about 80% of Canada’s oil sands resource is deeper (or in-situ) and requires complex extraction technologies, like steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD). As the name suggests, steam is used in SAGD to soften the bitumen so it can be pumped to the surface.

This complex technology has accelerated the demand for power engineers, reservoir engineers and well pad operators as in-situ oil sands production has expanded throughout northern Alberta.
