Behind every great manager is a great Administrative Assistant. These individuals seamlessly keep an office running smoothly. They look after the day-to-day details, schedules and daily departmental tasks so no one else has to worry about them.

This keen multi-tasker moves quickly between answering phones and emails, planning corporate events, scheduling and developing presentations. Administrative Assistants play a large part in the effectiveness of companies. They provide oversight to incoming information and changing schedules and use that information to anticipate the needs of the people they work with.

An Administrative Assistant can usually be found near their desk in an office environment. This space is a hub of activity as coworkers come to ask questions, make a request or inquire about a scheduling issue.  

Throughout the day, Administrative Assistants are using scheduling, word processing, accounting, database or enterprise management software. This can be to prepare meeting agendas and minutes, update calendars, develop presentations or meet other work requests. Usually they are able to leave at the end of regular office hours, but occasionally they work overtime to help with corporate events, meetings or to help meet a project deadline.

The kinds of problems Administrative Assistants solve at work: 

Since an Administrative Assistant is often tasked with a variety of jobs from different managers or team members, it is important to be able to prioritize tasks in order to get everything done on time. They are also often tasked with coordinating many competing schedules and appointments to make sure that everything is working properly.

Skills used most in the job: 

Since an Administrative Assistant works on so many different projects each day, it is important that they are highly organized and capable of multitasking. Administrative Assistants work with everyone from executives to interns, and often collaborate with other departments and greet clients, so they also need to genuinely like interacting with people and be able to work with a variety of different personalities. 

There is never a dull moment for an Administrative Assistant. They know what is happening and help keep everyone they work with organized, on schedule and more efficient.
